InAs/InP Quantum Dash Semiconductor Coherent Comb Lasers and their Applications in Optical Networks

We report on the design, growth, and fabrication of InAs/InP quantum dash (QD) gain materials their use in lasers for optical network applications. A noise performance comparison between QD well (QW) Fabry-Perot (F-P) has been made. By using material we have successfully developed assembled C-band coherent comb laser (CCL) modules with an electrical fast feedback loop control system to ensure a targeted mode frequency spacing. The spacing was maintained within ±100 ppm operation wavelengths locked desired ITU grid 0.01 nm over period several months. also investigated 25-GHz CCL external cavity self-injection locking (SIFL) reduce linewidth each individual channel below 200 kHz wavelength range from 1537.55 1545.14 nm. RF beating signal 3-dB bandwidth reduced 9 approximately 500 Hz this SIFL system. These CCLs ultra-low relative intensity (RIN), ultra-narrow linewidth, timing jitter are excellent sources multi-terabit networks. Using 34.2 GHz demonstrate 10.8 Tbit/s (16QAM 48 × 28 GBaud PDM) data transmission 100 km standard single fiber (SSMF) 5.4 (PAM-4 aggregate capacity 25 SSMF error-free operation.
